Utilization of renewable resources as a stimulus for socio-economic development.

1967
Socioeconomic development especially but not exclusively in developing areas is aided through the initiation of industrial development projects which use renewable resources. Such projects not only provide direct employment opportunities but also funnel the benefits throughout the economy through the job-multiplier effect. Technological progress has facilitated a changing use of raw materials in the more mature economies. Especially in the newer economies the use of raw materials must be viewed in terms of the ultimate contribution to the general welfare. The benefits of exploitation of renewable resources from farm and forest are broadly scattered through the economy. Rural development in particular is stimulated. In order to most profitably use raw materials a survey of available resources must be made. Resources must also be conserved. Energy sources and usage are 2 other areas important to socioeconomic development in all countries. An interdepartmental team of experts is best able to attack these combined problems.
