Rethinking the Man-agement of Knowledge in Organisations

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to our understanding of knowledge integration and dis-integration by revealing some of the conditions that support or hinder the management of knowledge especially in relation to Knowledge Management interventions. For the purposes of this analysis knowledge integration (thereafter KI) is defined as the process by which disperse knowledge within a social context across individual actors, in social relations, in actions and artefacts and other repository mechanisms, is connected. The main purpose of KI is to support practical judgment (phronesis) especially when addressing competing priorities and tensions. In other words, KI needs to be understood not just for the scope it provides to support new possibilities to be explored through the connections made, thus fostering management innovations through the choices exercised and actions taken.
