Dorysthenes sp. (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), a new pest of sugarcane plantations in Indonesia: biology and integrated control.

2001
A new pest of sugarcane in Indonesia was identified as Dorysthenes sp. (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae). It has a life span of about 2 years. Larvae can feed on several alternative hosts, but sugarcane is most preferred. Larvae attack the base of the stem and up the stem to about 20-30 cm and damage on ratoon cane is more serious than on plant cane. Due to the concealed habit of this pest, it is concluded that Dorysthenes sp. will be a serious pest in the future. An integrated set of controls can reduce significantly the numbers of this pest and its associated damage.
