Práctica extraescolar del baloncesto y calidad de movimiento en chicas adolescentes
2020
Objective: To assess the movement quality by applying the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) in girls teenagers aged 12-13 depending on whether they practice basketball as an extracurricular activity or not.
Method: Descriptive, comparative and cross-sectional study in which 47 girls (24 basketball practitioners and 23 non-practitioners) took part. It was used the FMS test, which is composed by seven movement patterns tests: overhead squat, hurdle step, in-line lunge, shoulder mobility, active straight leg raise, trunk stability push up and rotary stability.
Results: The Spearman R statistic showed a statically significant positive relationship between the global FMS score and the extracurricular PA (p =.023). Those girls who practiced basketball had better movement quality level than non-practitioners, with statistically significant differences, scoring higher in all the tests.
Conclusion: There is a relationship between the basketball´s practice and a higher FMS score.
