Production of plain bearing alloy

PURPOSE: To manufacture a plain bearing alloy of excellent performance by holding alloy powder having a fine structure obtd. by a mechanical alloying method in a reducing atmosphere of the sintering temp. or below and thereafter executing sintering at the sintering temp. CONSTITUTION: Mixed powder essentially consisting of two or more kinds of metals or metals and nonmetals is compounded by a mechanical alloying method into alloy powder having a fine structure. The mechanical alloy powder thus obtd. is compacted at about 0.5 to 3kg/cm 2 and is sintered to manufacture a plain bearing allay. In the manufacturing method, the green compact is held in a reducing atmosphere in the temp. range higher than the m.p. or eutectic temp. of the metals and lower than the sintering temp. and is subjected to preliminary heating treatment. After that, this green compact is heated up to the sintering temp. in the same atmosphere and is sintered. In this way, a dense sintered alloy structure in which the fine structure is activated is formed, by which the objective bearing alloy of high performance withstanding high loads can be obtd.
