Influence of antiepileptic drugs on the coagulation
2008
61 patients (33 women, 28 men; median age 39 years, range: 19–68 years) with epilepsy under antiepileptic drugs, were studied for coagulation abnormalities. Combined therapy with antiepileptic drugs received in 31 patients (51%) as compared to 30 patients (49%) among with monotherapy (VPA, carbamazepin , lamotrigin, topiramat, oxcarbazepin , primidon, levetiracetam). We determined factor XIII (FXIII), factor VIII activity (FVIII), von Willebrand factor antigen (VWF:Ag), ristocetin cofactor (VWF:RCo), platelet count and in vitro bleeding time (PFA 100). Clinical bleeding history was analysed with standardized questionnaire. Patients with confirmed bleeding disorders, thrombocytopenia or malignant disease were excluded.
