Synthesis and Properties of a New Range of Mixed-Donor Alkynyl Ferrocenophanes

The acid-catalyzed reaction of [1,1'-Fc{Co 2 (CO) 6 (μ:η 2 -C≡CCMe 2 OH)} 2 ] (Fc = Fe(η 5 -C 5 H 4 ) 2 ) with a variety of dinucleophiles led to the formation in excellent yields of a novel range of ferrocenophanes containing a variety of donor atoms. The crystal structures of four of these new compounds are reported as well as the results of electrochemical studies of the new complexes.
