Influence of Visual Non-verbal Information on Information Transmission to Audience

2019
It is well known that non-verbal information is important for smooth communication. On the other hand, it is also suggested that limiting transmitted non-verbal information leads to accurate comprehension. In this research, we investigate the influence of visual non-verbal information in presentations on audiences’ comprehension. In the experiment, opacity of black mask on presenter is changed to control the amount of non-verbal information, especially facial expression. Participants answer questionnaires and comprehension tests after watching each presentation video, and they answer re-questionnaires and re-tests one week later. Then we verify the answers in four points of view: the feeling of transmission, the degree of transmission, impression and memory.
