Formats of Cited References in Geological Journal Literature, 1965-1985

In the course of their research, geologists utilize a wide range of scientific information sources including journals, books, and conference proceedings. Other sources such as maps and guidebooks are also used. References cited in five leading geological journals published in 1965,1975, and 1985 were analyzed using a SAS cross-tabulation program to see if changes occurred in the rate of frequency with which the different formats were cited. Analysis of the data and comparison wilh other studies indicate that there has been litlle change in the percentage of each format cited during the twenty years studied.
