Large-mode-area Yb3+-doped photonic crystal fiber laser

In this paper a large mode area Yb 3+ -doped double cladding photonic crystal fiber laser is reported. The laser's output power reaches as high as 4.3W. The slope efficiency and the maximum optical-to-optical efficiency of laser output are 69.4% and 59.7%, respectively, with respect to absorbed pump power. Single transverse mode operation is obtained at central wavelength of 1072.3nm and the measured mode distribution agrees with the simulation by using scalar beam propagation method.
