Urethral Polyp in a Female Newborn

Various lesions present as interlabial masses in young girls, including prolapsed ectopic ureterocele, urethral prolapse, paraurethral cyst, hydrometrocolpos and rhabdomyosarcoma. The urethral meatus surrounds the prolapsed mass in ectopic ureterocele, as opposed to being centrally located in urethral prolapse and eccentrically located in paraurethral cyst. Renal ultrasonography will reveal typical findings of a duplex system and dilated upper pole in ectopic ureterocele. Hydrometrocolpos presents with bulging of an intact hymen and often an abdominal mass. Rhabdomyosarcoma presents as a grape-like mass, and caution must be exercised in differentiating this mass from a urethral polyp, which is usually a single pedunculated structure.1 We report a case of urethral polyp in a female newborn.
