Sampling approximation method for calculating the power spectral density of heavy-tailed on-off sources

By sampling the probability distribution function of the heavy-tailed distribution, the probability generating function of the distribution is approximately constructed so that it can be substituted into Laevens' (1997) expression to calculate the power spectral density of the associated heavy-tailed on-off sources. Calculating examples are given and are validated theoretically and empirically.
