An UWB MM-wave phased array antenna for 5G handheld devices applications

2017
An ultra-wideband (UWB) millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) dipole antenna array for fifth generation (5G) communications is presented in this paper. A linear phased array with eight elliptical bow-tie antenna elements, designed on a Rogers RT5880 substrate, has been used at the top side of the handheld devices PCB. The simulated results show that the antenna has the reflection coefficient (S11) less than −10 dB in the frequency range of 26.5 GHz to 40.2 GHz (more than 41.5% fractional bandwidth). The proposed phased array antenna has good gain and quasi-omnidirectional radiation beams at different scanning angles in the operation band.
