Computerized integration of electron beam rapid solidification and heat treatment

Abstract A new type of carbide distribution is observed in rapidly solidified M7 steel by introducing a short “thermal arrest” in the austenite range during cooling. This is accomplished using microcomputer-controlled electron beam deflection for the generation of preselected scanning patterns that modify the cooling curves.
