Die Bedeutung der Sonographie bei der Diagnostik der Osteomyelitis im Kindes- und Jugendalter

2002
The potential of ultrasonography (US) for evaluating soft-tissue as well as bony surface structures has come up to an actual high resolution standard. Regarding osteomyelitis (OM) located in limbs, clavicles or ribs of infants and children, it now competes with other imaging tools like radionuclide studies, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We, therefore, in a retrospective study analyzed the validity of US in helping to make an early diagnosis of the disease in these age groups without any radiation -and/or anaesthesia risk. Eventually an additional MRT seems necessary.
