The Immune System as a Reactive System: Modeling T Cell Activation With Statecharts (Extended Abstract)

2001
The construction of reliable reacrive sysrems is considered io be one ofthe most challenging goals in the fields of sofhvare and system engineering. The definition ofa reacrive system suits biological systems a1 different levels, rangingfrom gene nemorkF, developing embryos and the immune sysrem. We report here the application of a tool developedfor constructing computerized sysrems to the modeling and onolysis of a biological system, the immune sysrem. We use the language ofstatecharts within rhe fromework of object-oriented modeling. The results described here indicate rhm this modeling strategy can contribute ro the riamilion of biologv from rhe phase of analysis ro thephure ofsynthesis.
