Movement Disorders; Overview

2014
Neurological disorders where there is either an excess of abnormal involuntary movements or a paucity of voluntary and automatic movements are collectively called movement disorders. Examination of patients presenting with a movement disorder begins by determining whether the movements are hyperkinetic or hypokinetic. Observation of posture, tone, and gait also contribute to determining the exact diagnosis so that treatment can begin.
