Low Cycle Fatigue Life — An Analysis Based on Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior Under General-Yielding Cyclic-Loading

Low cycle fatigue life must be related to the growth of a small fatigue crack under a general-yielding cyclic-loading. In this paper, the correlation of da/dN with ΔJ will be examined, and the relation between J and the applied deformation work density will be obtained. With a general relation for fatigue crack growth under a general-yielding cyclic-loading, an expression for low cycle fatigue life will be derived. The derived expression agrees well with the existing low cycle fatigue data.
