Economics profession: dimensions of knowledge, activities and competence

The article analyzes development characteristics of the economics profession in different countries and its impact on the modern concept of this occupation. It was found that the formation of the economics profession was determined by subjective and objective factors and by change of practical activity. This substantially revealed that the occupation’s “weight” has not decreased, but has moved from business performance functions to certain specific skills as to operate effectively. Economic knowledge and competences have become increasingly important as the intellectual capital in developing new skills for other professions, also in substantiating and making important decisions, thus it often “comes out” of the framework of the economics profession.
