Replacement of entire esophagus by reversed gastric tube procedure (Heimlich-Gavriliu operation): Case of lye stricture of the cervical and thoracic esophagus

1961
Abstract A twenty-two year old woman with a lye stricture of the cervical esophagus was unable to swallow food or liquids for six years and survived by means of gastrostomy feedings. A reversed gastric tube procedure (Heimlich-Gavriliu operation) which replaced the entire esophagus was performed. The patient now eats a regular diet in a normal manner.
