The invention discloses an automatic idling control method for a hybrid excavator, and relates to hybrid engineering machinery with a coaxially-connected engine and generator/motor structure. The method includes setting a pilot pressure threshold, deceleration time, conditions for shutting down an engine and an idle speed of the engine; detecting the pilot handle pressure and downtime of the engine, when the pilot handle pressure is lower than the set pilot pressure threshold and the downtime of the engine exceeds the set deceleration time, decelerating the engine into the idle speed; when the engine is in the idle speed, detecting the state of charge of a capacitor, and setting a torque value corresponding to a generator/motor so as to charge the capacitor according to the detected state of charge of the capacitor; when the conditions for shutting down the engine are met, shutting down the engine; when the pilot handle pressure is detected being higher than the set pilot pressure threshold, setting the speed of the engine to be the operating speed corresponding to the current accelerator position.
