A Grammar-Driven Approach for Parsing Manipuri Language.

This paper presents attempts to parse Manipuri language using a context-free grammar (CFG) and Earley’s parsing algorithm. For a low resource language like Manipuri where treebanks are not available, following a grammar-driven approach is the only viable solution as of now. The work covers simple, compound and complex Manipuri sentences. The system reports a Recall of 81.71%, Precision of 72.38%, and F-measure of 76.76%. The CFG and the parsing system we have created can be very useful in building a treebank for Manipuri.
