CONTROL OF INTERMETALLIC PARTICLES IN MAGNESIUM ALLOYS BY FILTRATION

1960
Insoluble intermetallic particles in wrought magnesium alloys can be controlled by a filtration process in which the molten metal is passed in a downward direction through a suitable filter bed maintained below the filtered metal level to prevent oxidation. No. 8 grade chilled iron shot appears to be the most practically satisfactory filter material. (auth)
