[A slow gallop into the year of the horse: new legislation on family planning in the Peoples Republic of China]

The current efforts in China to restrict the rate of population growth by adopting and implementing stringent birth control legislation are described. The author notes that while such legislation is being considered at the national level existing legislation at the provincial level remains in force. A translation of the Birth Planning Rules of Zhejiang Province as of December 1989 is provided as an example. (SUMMARY IN ENG) (ANNOTATION)
