Pseudomyxoma peritonei of appendiceal origin.

Background: A 70-year-old female presented with increasing abdominal girth and extraordinary gain of weight over the past few months. There was no significant medical history. Initially, patient underwent ultrasonography of the abdomen which suggested the diagnosis of cystadenocarcinoma of the right ovary. The laboratory results showed an increase of tumor marker levels (CA19.9 3.7 U/ml (0-37), CEA 55.1 ng/ml (0-3)). Paracentesis allowed aspiration of only a small amount of mucous substance.
