Evolution of dairy goat group in COVAP

COVAP is the second largest livestock co-operative in Spain. It is located in the districts of Los Pedroches, La Serena and Alcudia, acting like a main factor of development in these areas, settling population and diversifying agricultural income. Milk production is the main activity. In 1996, the co-operative started the activity in the goat milk sector with 16 farms. Today, COVAP watches over nearly 50 herds, with an average size of 200 female goats. They are based on intensive production systems and they produce almost three millions litres of milk. They are supported by health, feeding, reproduction and genetic programs provided by the Technical Services of the Co-operative.
