In Vitro Induction of Mutation in Potato

1987
Potato (Solarium tuberosum L.) comprises diploid and tetraploid forms (2n = 2x = 24 and 2n = 4x = 48 respectively). However, all commercial potato cultivars, with the exception of some native varieties cultivated in Latin America, are tetraploid. Potatoes are vegetatively propagated through tubers, since the propagation by seeds is hindered by the extremely high heterozygosity, frequently accompanied by failures in fruit and seed set.
