Prevention and control of nosocomial infection in neonatal intensive care unit.

OBJECTIVE To discuss the effective ways of preventing and controlling nosocomial infection in neonatal intensive care unit(NICU).METHODS From Aug 2006 to Jul 2009,a nosocomial infection prevention and control system and a work flow as well as inspection of its implementation were formulated by the Department of Nosocomial Infection Management,who had monitored specific targets and working closely with the NICU wards,so as to achieve the goal of preventing and controlling nosocomial infection in NICU together.RESULTS The system related to the prevention and control of nosocomial infection has worked out smoothly.With the increase in the number of seriously injured patients,the use of invasive technology and the risk of nosocomial infection,the nosocomial infection rate and missing rate have declined annually,P0.01,with the statistical significance.The environmental hygiene monitoring of different spots have all met the standard requirements.No uncontrollable outbreak of nosocomial infection has happened.CONCLUSIONS The efforts made by the Department of Nosocomial Infection Management such as the formulating and realizing the of correlated system,the strengthening of inspection efforts,adopting both the prospective monitoring method and targeted surveillance in dealing with nosocomial infection cases,and working closely with medical staff of all wards are effective ways of preventing and controlling nosocomial infection.
