The Influence of Stator Pole Numbers on The Performance of Flux Reversal Permanent Magnet Linear Machines

2019
Stator pole number of doubly salient permanent magnet machines has been of interested, since it significantly effects such machines the performances. This paper investigates the impact of stator pole number on the performance of a flux reversal permanent magnet linear machine (FRPMLM). FRPMLMs having different stator pole numbers have been designed, optimized and analyzed using 2D- FEA. It is shown that 6/7 FRPMLM delivers the highest back-EMF and average thrust force, consequently the best PM utilization. In contrast, 6/4 FRPMLM possesses the worst performance among the understudying machines. Furthermore, the lowest thrust force ripple is for 6/11 topology followed by 6/7 machine. It has been found that odd stator pole number machines show lower thrust force ripple compared to even stator pole number counterparts, as the former have lower goodness factor than the latter.
