Fatty acid composition in fractions of neutral lipids and phospholipids of Hemisorubim platyrhynchos with seasonal distinction

2021
Abstract The effect of seasonal variations in the fatty acid composition of total lipids (TL), neutral lipids (NL) and phospholipids (PL) of Hemisorubim platyrhynchos was evaluated. Ten fish samples were collected from Amazon basin in each seasonal period (drought and flood). The fatty acids composition of TL, NL and PL throughout seasonal periods were studied. A significant difference was noted in TL content between the seasonal periods, with the highest values (7.48%) in the drought period. NL corresponded to 90%, on average, of TL and PL to 8.6%. The fatty acids composition of TL and lipid classes (NL and PL) were affected by the seasonal variations and lipid fraction. Higher values of PUFA were observed during the flood period to TL and both lipids classes. EPA + DHA totalized on average 173 mg 100g-1, so jurupoca could be considered a source of these health-benefiting fatty acids, exceeding the daily intake recommendation.
