Insecticidal and Antifeedant Activities of Aqueous Fraction of Clerodendron Infortunatum on Helicoverpa Armigera (Hübner)

2011
Shade dried plant material was soaked in methanol and partitioned with different solvents of varying polarity, mixed with water. By this way, water soluble compounds were separated and concentrated under vacuo. Insecticidal activity was assayed through topical application and antifeedant activity through leaf disc no-choice and choice test methods at 24 and 48 hours after treatment on third instar larvae. The result showed that in no-choice test at the lowest dose (0.001%) antifeedant activity at 24 and 48 hours was 30.5 and 28.6%, respectively which increased to 66.5 and 63.5% at the highest dose (0.5%) (AI50 = 0.0219 & 0.0365% at 24 & 48 hours, respectively). in case of choice test method, 35.5 and 33.4% antifeedant activity was observed at the lowest dose (0.0007%) which increased to 70.2 and 68.7% at highest dose (0.5%) at respective observation times (AI 50 = 0.0032 & 0.0060% at 24 & 48 hours, respectively).
