Analysis of combining ability and heritability of the major agronomic characters in some parents of three-line Indica hybrid rice

Eleven sterile lines and 6 restoring lines were chosen for the analysis of combining abilities of 8 yield characters and related characters by incomplete diallele cross(NCⅡ) design.The results were as follows:(1) both general combining ability(GCA) and specific combining ability(SCA) of the 8 characters were highly significant or significant,the additive variation was principal for the characters of plant height(PH),spikelets per panicle(SP),filled spikelets per panicle(FSP),1000-grain weight(TGW),while the non-additive variation was principal for the characters of effective panicles per plant(EPP),panicle length(PL),grain weight per plant(GWP);(2) most characters were more greatly influenced by restorer line than by sterile line;(3) the GCA and SCA of yield characters of EBC502,Yixiang A,Tianfeng A,Longtefu A,Neixiang 2A in sterile line and R527,N175,TR239 in restoring line were better;(4) the GCA of parents was not significantly related to the SCA of groups.The order of narrow heritability in various characters was: TGWPHseed-setting rate(SSR)GWPFSPEPPPLSP.
