Bibliographical Controls for South Asian Studies

2015
Today the most extensive and intensive work in South Asian studies is being done in North America, the United Kingdom, and South Asia itself. Following a discussion of the development of South Asian library resources in these three countries, the author examines the types of bibliographical tools available to the individual interested in South Asian studies. These tools include printed catalogs, bibliographies, guides to periodical literature, government publications in South Asia, guides to theses and dissertations, and printed card controls. In conclusion the author emphasizes the importance of training bibliographical specialists and reference librarians who can supplement and interpret the available printed tools and who can also aid in the development of new tools.
