Abstract 17705: Effects and Clinical Outcomes of Cardiac Progenitor Cell Infusion at Two Years in the Single Ventricle Cell Therapy Trials

2017
Introduction: Single ventricle physiology is a fatal congenital heart disease and may develop to late-onset heart failure after staged palliations. Cardiosphere-derived cells (CDCs) have shown to increase ventricular function in previous clinical studies. Hypothesis: We aimed to assess the effects and clinical outcomes in long-term of intracoronary infusion of autologous CDCs in patients with single ventricle physiology compared with the patients treated by staged palliation alone. Methods: We designed a historical cohort study included 101 patients who underwent stage-2 or -3 surgical palliation with single ventricular physiology between January, 2011, and March, 2015. Results: Forty-one patients were assigned to receive selective infusion of autologous CDCs into coronary arteries 4 weeks after staged palliation in the prospective, randomized phase 1/2 clinical trials. Compared with 60 patients treated by staged palliation alone, CDCs-treated patients showed significantly improved cardiac function (P<0.0...
