Adult house fly control with residual treatments of six organophosphorus compounds.

Dimethoate, DDVP, General Chemical 4072 ( O-O -diethyl-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-2-chlorovinyl diethyl phosphate), and Bayer Compounds 29493( O, O -dimethyl O -[4-(methylthio)- m -tolyl] phosphorothioate), 34098 ( O -(4-methylthio- m -tolyl dimethylphosphinothioate), and 22408 ( O, O -diethyl O -naphthalimido phosphorothioate) were evaluated as residual treatments in Savannah, Georgia, dairy farms for the control of house fly ( Musca domeslica L.) populations. Bayer 22408 (100 mg./sq. ft.) with or without sugar and DDVP (100 mg./sq. ft.) with a sugar additive failed to provide satisfactory residual deposits. At five dairies, Bayer 29493 (100 mg./sq. ft.) provided 6 to 15 weeks of excellent to satisfactory control while Bayer 34098 (100 mg./sq. ft.) and G. C. 4072 (50 mg./sq. ft.) at a single dairy gave 15 to 16 weeks of satisfactory control. Dimethoate (200 mg./sq. ft.) provided 9 to 16 weeks of effective fly control.
