Studies on the reproductive strategy of Larix chinensisI fecundity and seed weight

2004
The relationship between the fecundity, seed weight of Larix chinensis and their age and altitude were studied in this paper. The result showed that (1) The age of maturation of Larix chinensis in the southern slope was younger than in the northern slope. (2) The fecundity increased with the age while declined at the age of 70 years in the southern slope and 90 years in the northern slope. It also increased with the altitude, but in the northern slope it was beginning to decline at about 3 300 m. (3) The seed weight became bigger with the increase of age but became smaller in the southern slope after 60 years old. With the increase in altitude, the seed weights become bigger at first and then smaller, but it became smaller at a lower altitude in the northern slope.
