TRACER STUDIES. IV. SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF STRONTIUM AND COBALT FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION

1963
/sup 60/Co and /sup 90/Sr were used in tracer studies of the solvent extraction of Co and Sr using various complexing agents in conjunction with CHCl/ sub 3/. For Sr, the complexing agents studied were EDTA, cupferron, 1-NO 2- naphthol, and oxine; only oxine resulted in appreciable separation from aqueous solutions. For Co, both 1-NO 2-naphthol and oxine gave separation. The liquid- liquid countercurrent extraction of Sr and Co was studied using oxine. In the stepwise separation of Sr and Co from aqueous mixtures, two procedures using (a) 1-NO 2-naphthol to extract Co and then 10% oxine for Sr and (b) 1% oxine to extract Co and then 10% oxine for Sr, gave clean separations.
