Thermal fatigue strength of directionally solidified, casting nickel alloy ZhS6U

1977
1. The resistance to thermal fatigue of heat-resistant, cast nickel alloy ZhS6U, directionally solidified, was determined. 2. It was shown that at Δe>1%, the fatigue life of specimens with a longitudinal orientation of grains is 1.5–2 times greater than that of specimens with a transverse orientation of grains. The difference is manifest principally in the case of loading in cycles with holding of the specimen at maximum temperature. The difference in the behavior of material with coarse acicular and fine acicular macrostructure is less substantial. 3. A description was given of the characteristic features of the macrostructure and microstructure of thermal fatigue fractures distinguishing them from mechanical fatigue fractures.
