Cochlear implant is an electronic device of advanced technology, capable of substituting the transduction system of dysfunctional ciliated cells of the inner ear. There are 27 children implanted in Villa Clara; two of them are blind and deaf. The age at implantation and years of implantation, are among other factors, important aspects which measure level of rehabilitation and their results in the long-term. In this process, the family is fundamental for the progress of the implanted patient; this implant improves auditory results, as well as, school performance. Children are returned to general teaching, and consequently, reintegrated into society, and obviously this implant improves their quality of life. DeCS: cochlear implants, hearing loss.
