Consumer growth efficiencies: Their limits and relationships to ecological energetics
1981
Abstract The relationship between biophage ecological efficiencies and growth efficiencies of individual animals is shown. The calculated theoretical maximum growth efficiencies are 82–88% for heterotherms and 53–56% for homeotherms. The factors that cause lowered observed growth efficiencies ( x = 53% for heterotherms) are discussed.
