[Case of tubo-ovarian abscesses with peritonitis and septic shock in a patient wearing an intrauterine contraceptive device]

1981
This article discusses a 40 year old woman who developed purulent adnexitis (tubo-ovarian abscesses) with an interloop abscess in the peritoneal cavity and embolic pneumonia (edema) 4 years after IUD insertion. Removal of the device and conservative treatment with antibiotics and aspiration of pus was unsuccessful. In view of this the abscesses were removed surgically and the interloop abscess was drained. The patient made a successful recovery. (authors) (summaries in ENG RUS)
