RESEARCH IN THE DESIGN OF ASPHALT

This paper, compares the Marshall test with two other tests that can be used for evaluating gap-graded asphalt mixes, and shows that all three give equivalent results. It then describes investigations into the effects that the type and amount of the various components have on the stability and other properties of a complete asphalt mix. Finally, it suggests a possible design procedure which would enable gap-graded asphalt to be made to a performance specification. /Author/TRRL/
