Oogenesis, Final Oocyte Maturation and Ovulation, Insects

2016
Insects produce enormous numbers of progeny. To make this possible, the insect ovary is designed to create and mature eggs at a rapid and sustained rate and is responsive to environmental factors such nutrition, temperature, and mating status. Stimuli from mating, including tactile, seminal fluid, and sperm, induce ovulation and physiological changes in the female reproductive tract to support fertilization and oviposition.
