Determination of conveyor carousels speeds for baggage separation

2018
Baggage handling system plays an important role in airport system, it handles a large amount of baggage every day. While two or more pieces of baggage are collided, extruded, or lain alongside of each other on conveyor, it not only results in luggage damaged, but extends time in baggage transportation. The primary cause of those issues is baggage conveying on two consecutive conveyors with improper speeds. In this paper, we propose a scheme to determine appropriate speeds to multiple parallel conveyors as well as to solve the problem of baggage lain alongside of each other. Baggage is represented by binary pattern in image. The proposed scheme computes moment of force to patterns for simulation of baggage conveying, and calculates movements and rotations of patterns based on theory of torque balance. Consequently, the parallel conveyors with appropriate speeds make two pieces of baggage conveyed separately with less time but without collision, extrusion, and lying alongside of each other.
