Review of Urban Growth Boundary Research and Analysis of Its Sinicization

Urban growth boundary (UGB) is one of the important technologies and policy tools on urban spatial growth management. Based on the summarization of domestic and international UGB research situation, including the background, the connotation, theoretical bases, setting methods, aims and the experience, the suitability and the key difficulties of the sinicization of UGB are discussed in the paper. In view of the lack of UGB technical specification and management policies in China, several suggestions of the UGB sinicization are proposed: 1)In the planning concept, UGB should be known as a planning technology and public policy of regulating urban land use; 2)In the planning formulation, setting technology of UGB should be established scientifically base on the comprehensive and reliable data of Regional Land Information System; 3)In the planning management, the statutory footing of UGB should be defined so as to bridge the current urban spatial management system and implement the various supporting policies for UGB, to build complete protection mechanism, and to formulate a set of Chinese UGB management system accordingly.
