An improved model and simulation of aerial vehicle friction Charging current and Corona Discharge

2020
The aircraft flying at high altitude and high speed will generate static electricity which will cause aircraft misoperation, even explosion, and other major accidents. This paper establishes an improved model of friction charging current based on the work function theory, and deduces the surface potential and discharge current when the aircraft is in electrostatic equilibrium, then simulates the electromagnetic field distribution inside and outside the aircraft shell during corona discharge with TLM algorithm. Friction charging current between aircraft and ice crystal is affected by ice crystal concentration, aircraft speed, ice crystal charge immersion depth, etc. The electrostatic potential of the aircraft surface is affected by the flight speed, the concentration and size of ice particles, and the leakage resistance. The electrostatic potential of the aircraft surface will reach hundreds of kV within 50 seconds. The discharge current is related to the environment of the aircraft, which is affected by air pressure, humidity, flight speed, and other factors. When corona discharge occurs, the electromagnetic field will be coupled to the internal cable through the engine on the aircraft body and the welding gap.
