Effectiveness of Integrated Media and Technology Education (IMTE) at the Windhoek College of Education (WCE)

2010
Integrated Media and Technology Education (IMTE) is a Core Subject in the Broad Curriculum for the Basic Education Teacher Diploma (BETD). The subject is offered for three years to all student teachers at the four teacher training colleges in Namibia. It is expected that student teachers should be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills through teaching and learning of IMTE as a subject, but the question is how effectively the IMTE course is taught in order to ensure learning. This presentation will highlight the factors that influence the efficiency of the IMTE course at the Windhoek College of Education in Namibia. This was a qualitative study. The findings illustrate two main issues that influence effectiveness of the IMTE course, i.e. accessibility of computers and insufficient training.
