The Clinical Analysis of 82 Cases of Intractable Epistaxia

2008
Objective:An approach to selection of clinical therapy for refractory rhinorrhagia(RA).Methods:A retrospective study of the eighty-two RA cases admitted between November 2005 and November 2006 was made. Results:All cases were cured.Seventy-three cases underwent endoscope-aided local stuffing of paranasal sinus;four cases underwent nasal septum deviation correction;in three other cases of nasal hemangioma, one underwent partial inferior turbinectomy and the other two underwent bipolar electric coagulation. The last two cases of severe rhinorrhagia failed to be cured by frequent stuffing of anterior naris or stuffing of anterior and posterior naris, finally they received ligation of carotid artery. Conclusion:Different therapies should be recommended for different kinds of refractory rhinorrhagia(e.g.different causes and bleeding parts).
