Passive therapeutic arm forpelvis supportduring FESsupported gait treadmill training - a casestudy

2007
Thepaperpresents a casestudywherea novel passive therapeutic armforpelvis support isintroduced tothe clinical treadmill training ofincomplete spinal cordinjured (SCI)patients using afunctional electrical stimulation (FES) togaincertain locomotor functions. TheFESgait reeducation ontreadmill applied automatic triggering andintensity control inrelation totheswingquality performance. Inthecasestudy anincomplete SCIsubject (Th-10, chronic) participated. Clinical procedure withclassical treadmill training lasted fora weekfollowed bya combined FESandpassive therapeutic armtreadmill training. Additionally clinical test, 9min.andlOmwalkwerecarried out.Theoutcomes suggest thatsimultaneous pelvis control andFESmotoraugmentation requiring subject's active cooperation maygainthetherapeutic effect ofthetreadmill training.
