Degrowth—A Logical Inadequacy?

2021
In relation to the religion of growth—the main theme of economics—which reduced hunger around the world, degrowth is destined to remain an opposition speech. Its appeal comes from the warnings regarding the lack of restraint in using some resources and the sagacious exploitation of social and environmental problems. Garnishing its speech with warning of impending doom and utopian goals, it is condemned to be a noisy ideology that induces pathological behaviours and cannot be found in the architecture of any government. It does not fit neither the rich, nor the poor, two worlds sufficiently distinct to require two different development matrixes. Sustainable growth, and not the escape from materialism and capitalism, ensures any progress. It is not compatible with gloomy endings that pop up at every step. Nobody invests in a soon to be doomed world.
